Privacy Policy

How we use your information

Your privacy is important to the Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit of Parexel International Ltd. (in the following “Parexel International”) and we will use your information only in accordance with the terms of this privacy notice. This privacy notice applies to information we collect about visitors to our websites, and those who have registered their interest in participating in a clinical trial at Parexel International and those who sign up to our Volunteer Mailing List and those who registered their attendance at an event via an online registration form.

Please note that if you register your interest in participating in a clinical trial at Parexel International or in joining our Volunteer Mailing List, you will also be referred to an additional specific privacy statement and you will be asked for specific consent to the use of your personal information in certain contexts.

Visitors to our websites

When someone visits www.drugtrial.co.uk we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns, in connection with our use of cookies and similar technologies. We do this to keep track of information such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it. An example is where a website visitor enters their details in the website application form for a clinical trial or registers for our Volunteer Mailing List on the website. We state clearly what categories of personal information are requested and the purposes for which such information will be used. We also explain to registrants how to opt out of marketing communications from us at any time.

Parexel International has contracted with Salesforce.com, Inc. (“Salesforce”) as a service provider to maintain a database of available clinical trials and eligible volunteers on a cloud platform. Parexel International is the responsible controller of this database. However, when visitors click on any of the links under the “Find a Study” heading, including “Available Studies” or “Search for a Study,” they will be redirected to a site hosted by Salesforce (URL: pxlcrs.force.com).

Parexel relies upon its legitimate interests as its legal basis to collect, store and use contact details (e.g. names, telephone numbers, email addresses, mailing addresses) for communicating with registered visitors (e.g., responding to queries) and (provided that such visitors have not opted out of receiving this information) inviting them to participate in upcoming clinical trials.

Where visitors register their interest in a particular clinical trial, they may be asked to provide their explicit consent to Parexel International for the processing of any sensitive personal information necessary for that trial. This information may be processed by Parexel International and by our service providers, such as Salesforce.

We also use and disclose personal information, as necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable law, including laws outside your country of residence; (b) to comply with legal process; (c) to enforce our Terms; (d) to protect our operations; (e) to protect our rights, property or safety, and/or that of our users, you, or others; and (f) to allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

We will store your personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, according to the following criteria: (a) while we have an ongoing relationship with you; (b) where we are required to do so in accordance with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting requirements (for example, certain laws require us to keep records of our clinical trials for a certain period of time before we can delete them); and (c) where we consider it necessary to have an accurate record of your dealings with us in the event of any complaints or challenges, or if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation relating to your personal information or dealings (such as in regard to applicable statutes of limitations, litigation or regulatory investigations).

International transfers

Our sharing of your personal information with the third parties identified above will result in the transfer of your personal information to locations outside of the UK, which may have data protection rules that are different from those in the UK. Whenever we transfer your personal information out of the UK, we ensure at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

  • We transfer your personal information to countries that have been deemed by the UK government to provide an adequate level of protection for personal information. This applies in respect of any transfer of your personal information from the UK to the EEA.
  • For transfers from the UK to countries not considered adequate (such as when we share personal information with third parties), we rely on adequate measures, such as standard contractual clauses, to give personal information the same protection it has in the UK. You may obtain a copy of these measures by using the information in the ‘How to contact us’ section below.

Individuals’ Rights

If you would like to request to access, correct, update, suppress, restrict, or delete personal information, object to or opt out of the processing of personal information, or if you would like to request to receive a copy of your personal information for purposes of transmitting it to another company (to the extent these rights are provided to you by applicable law), you may contact us in accordance with the ‘How to contact us’ section below. We will respond to your request consistent with applicable law.

In your request, please make clear what personal information you would like to have changed or whether you would like to have your personal information suppressed from our database. For your protection, we may only implement requests with respect to the personal information associated with the particular email address that you use to send us your request, and we may need to verify your identity before implementing your request. We will try to comply with your request as soon as reasonably practicable. Please note that we may need to retain certain information for recordkeeping purposes and/or to complete any transactions that you began prior to requesting a change or deletion.
